Review: Camden Market Christmas Grotto

We were delighted to be invited to an after school treat to experience the Christmas Grotto at Camden Market last Friday. We went to the Amy Winehouse statue, saw the red carpet leading towards the Ice Rink, and saw further on to the right were a few elves waiting to welcome us into the grotto.

The elves do a great job of welcoming and entertaining the kids as we wait for everyone to arrive. The Grotto experience is done in groups, and then children have some arts and crafts activities to keep them occupied during the short wait. The experience is interactive, with a video explaining the breaking news, followed by a visit with Father Christmas.

This is a much nicer experience than some of the larger Santa’s Grottos we’ve been to - where we snake around a queue for ages. The moment we reached the grotto at Camden Market, we were part of the experience.

As a special treat, we were taken to Hans and Gretel, the Sweet Dream Factory which is just a few doors away. The children gorged on ice cream and then we went for a quick skate on the ice rink. My three year old sat on the skate aid and my 6 year old was able to go around the rink semi-aided.
