SPOTLIGHT Q&A

Tell Us about your business…

I’m a holistic health coach and wellness consultant and the aim of my practice is to help clients (men and women) identify and achieve their health goals through diet and lifestyle improvements. I deal with all kinds of illnesses whether it be obesity, chronic digestive complaints, hormonal imbalance, chronic fatigue and low mood or simply advice on how to age gracefully. Some of my most successful clients are from the corporate world, looking to make a change to their lifestyle in order to improve their sleep and stress levels.

What inspired you to start your business or enter your field of work?

It was my own health journey that led me to enrol at the College of Naturopathic Medicine and pursue a career in health and wellness. I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 18 years old. At the time I was juggling both, a university education and a thriving fashion modelling career. I become aware very early on of the effects of my hectic lifestyle on my health. Since then I’ve managed my IBS symptoms through diet and lifestyle modifications. However, it was when I conceived my daughter, and when my husband was diagnosed with an auto- immune disease years after my diagnosis, that I decided to make wellness a full-time obsession! I

think the catalyst for me was my daughter and her health. Given both her parents’ struggled with digestive health, I wanted to ensure I set her up on the right path to avoid having the same challenges we struggled with.

How long has your business been running in the local area?

I started my practice in June this year and have been seeing clients online since then.

What is your favourite thing about working in the Hampstead area?

Hampstead is home! My daughter goes to school here and I feel really connected to the Hampstead community. I find the environment nurturing and wholesome from the shops that line the High Street to the mums running errands with their children in tow (and a dog or two). I love being part of this community and am grateful to have a chance to give back through my work.

How has coronavirus and lockdown affected your business?

I think the coronavirus has affected us all in so many ways both physical and mental. I think for me, since I’m setting up my practise, I find it very challenging to manage my time given school routine is disrupted and my husband is working from home. Finding the time and space (both mental and physical) to set myself up is proving to be more challenging than I had anticipated.

Where do you see yourself and your business in five years?

I would love to set up a wellness clinic where individuals can come and find the answers to their health challenges. There’s so much information out there these days and yet, the more we know the more confused we are. I hope that in 5 years time, I can set up a clinic where health and wellness comes with ease to those who seek it! I also want to set up a platform for children and young teens to help them understand and appreciate the impact and importance of sound nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

With regard to health and wellness, my mum. For as long as I can remember, I had home grown food. My mum would compost the food waste and then use it to grow her vegetables. This, not because we lived on a farm, far from it. I grew up in a very busy, cosmopolitan city. She was just very aware of looking after herself, her family and her environment. She was composting, reusing and replacing plastic 3 decades ago! At a time when it was fashionable to use non-stick cookware she was using stainless steel and terracotta pots to cook and store her food. Today, I tell my clients to do the same, both for themselves and the environment.

What does success look like to you?

Success to me is synergy between the results you want to achieve (for your clients) and actually being able to make it happen for them. Our bodies are so unique and not one size fits all. So, to me success is empowering my clients (for life) to overcome their health challenges with ease and confidence.

How can Hampstead Mums support you and your business?

Hampstead mums is such an amazing platform that brings the community together, supporting it in its challenges and celebrating its successes. Through Hampstead mums, I would like my practise to be more visible to the community and to form associations that further the health and wellness of the community as a whole. Imagine the impact our collective consciousness could have if we could all get together and support one another in their daily life challenge.
