Feed the Front Line - Royal Free Hospital Covid Medical Staff Meals and Support Appeal

Sharing this JustGiving appeal, set up by 4 local individuals (I know 2 of them personally).

They say:

“Feed the Front Line - Royal Free Hospital Covid Medical Staff Meals and Support Appeal

We need your help! Doctors and nurses responsible for Covid patients at the Royal Free Hospital urgently need your support for the provision of hot meals for lunch and dinner and other wellbeing supplies during this crisis.

The Need

This is to help specifically the general medical team responsible for all the Covid wards. The doctors and nurses in ITU and A&E are separately looked after. For the ward doctors, there is no effective provision.

Hundreds of these doctors and nurses dedicated to treating Covid patients are working extremely long hours in the most difficult circumstances with very little care for their wellbeing. The hospital itself is not able to provide facilities anywhere near on the scale necessary, and does not provide lunch or dinner. The queues at the general staff canteen take too long for doctors under acute time pressure. Sometimes they have to skip meals completely. This is not good for them or their patients.

At a minimum, staff need nutritious meals at lunch and dinner, seven days per week.

Funds are urgently required to ensure the steps and measures which have been put in place so far can continue for the duration of the crisis.

The Appeal

We are a group of local families who, together with doctors on the Covid medical team wards, are appealing for your help. It will cost around £1,000 minimum per day to solve this problem. The local families have already committed enough to fund the next two weeks and we are now seeking your help in raising funds to ensure the measures which have been put in place are able to continue for at least the forthcoming two months. Our goal is £50,000 which will be able to ensure all doctors and nurses get properly fed over this crisis period.

What Will Our Money Be Used For?

The essential measures include the following:

  • Daily hot lunches and dinners. Arrangements as far as possible are being made with local restaurants for the provision of meals. This not only cares for medical staff, but also helps local restaurants during a time of unprecedented crisis in the hospitality sector.

  • Additional supplies including drinks, ready meals, snacks, coffee, tea, pastries have been arranged and need to continue.

The NHS is not able to provide these items at the present time and it is therefore up to members of the community to help. In addition, while there are a number of wonderful independent efforts to assist different teams at the hospital in various amazing ways, there is currently no such effort to provide meals and supplies in this manner and on this scale to this particular group of doctors and nurses who are on the front line in the Covid wards.

Please provide whatever you can. All funds raised will go directly to the provision of these items.

If you prefer not to donate money and wish to donate supplies instead, the priority items needed are snacks and drinks, toiletries, coffee capsules and similar items.

Please feel free to contact any of us if you have questions.
