Hampstead Hive Member Spotlight - Lexie Grech

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS..

food&being™️ is an expression of the magic that is born within the kitchen space.
The concept, in its loosest form, was nurtured into me by my late grandad Joe, in my early years. The kitchen was his sacred place, his workshop if you will. He would wake up early in the morning and start cooking. That’s where he would spend most of his day and that’s where I would spend mine when at my grandparents’ house.

It wasn’t until later on in my adulthood that I saw the pattern emerge: whatever emotion or mood I experience, I disappear into the kitchen to process and work through it. If this is helpful for me, I thought, it might also be a wonderful experience for others.

My superpower is creating safe, warm spaces, where food and being become one. Aided by my professional qualifications and my kitchen fundamentals, I work with individuals, families, teams and friend groups to create powerful and lasting connections and core memories, through the food you love to cook and eat.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST BUSINESS ACHIEVMENT SO FAR?

I think having a recipe picked up and shared (with consent) by the official Le Creuset Instagram page ranks pretty high for me. However, in reality, my greatest achievement is creating a business out of bringing my two greatest passions together: Cooking and nurturing meaningful connections, compassion, and nourishment with those who lovingly cross my path.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE NEXT?

The next step for me is to reach more people globally and truly convey why the kitchen space is so much more than just another space in the family home. There are some plans I am working on to widen my offer and make it as accessible as possible to inspire a movement for people to own back the kitchen space as a place for connection and core memory-making.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER SOMEONE THINKING OF ENTERING INTO YOUR FIELD?

Like any other disruptive field, Cooking Therapy Coaching or Cooking Therapy comes with the wonderful, added challenge of inviting people to reframe existing mindsets. And this can only happen through collaboration with others in our field. So if you're interested in entering this world, come find and join the growing community of like-minded beings doing this work. And just like the best piece of advice I received: find your own approach and way of doing it. Your uniqueness and story are your superpowers.

What is your favourite aspect about working in the local area?

I LOVE Hampstead. I remember feeling at home from my first visit. The aspect of being in a large city but with a wonderful village feel is incomparable. People here value family time and good food, which leads me to mention the incredible local food businesses like fishmongers, butchers and produce sellers, which we are so privileged to have access to and need to continue supporting in whatever way we can.
