Led by experienced Griffin + Bell Senior Tutor Phil Ormrod, our 11+ courses have an exceptional reputation for preparing pupils in Y5 and Y6 for the tough 11+/pre-test process to come. The winter courses are the perfect opportunity for revision and exam practice for pupils preparing for their final 11+ and pre-test examinations. The sessions will cover English, Maths and Reasoning, as well as a workshop on interview skills. Please note that the shorter course will reduce the emphasis on Reasoning, and it will provide a more developed interview session. Throughout the course, pupils will be reviewing the trickiest aspects of the KS2/11+ curriculum, and gathering tips and skills for exam technique and time management, which will give them the best possible chance to shine in their upcoming tests. Each course will be a great way to consolidate curriculum material and rebuild confidence and motivation after Covid-19. Past participants in our 11+ courses have earned places at St. Paul's (Girls' and Boys' Schools), Westminster, North London Collegiate, City, Habs, Highgate, UCS, Merchant Taylors, Francis Holland, South Hampstead High, Latymer Upper, Godolphin, Notting Hill and Ealing, Winchester, Eton, Wycombe Abbey and many more. Several have been offered academic scholarships.

SHAKESPEARE SIMPLIFIED (GCSE)

Suitable for Years 10-11, this course comprises of a 3 hour-long workshop on Saturday 19th December (10am-1pm), followed by one-to-one feedback and troubleshooting session with a top tutor. The course will be hosted on Zoom, with a maximum of 12 pupils. This focused course will demystify Shakespeare’s work while addressing key GCSE exam board assessment objectives. The course will feature guided seminars on how to analyse Shakespeare’s language and his use of dramatic structure. Across the morning, vital social, historical and cultural context will be outlined, including a discussion of original performance practices. We will adapt our teaching to best address the plays which participants are studying GCSE, very often - although by no means exclusively - Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. Participants will be encouraged to develop their own personal responses, and they will be given guidance as to how to ground these in effective analysis and evaluation of the plays. Our time together will culminate in a one-to-one troubleshooting clinic and feedback session, in which students will be given advice as to how to refine their writing for examination and coursework. The course will aim to inspire confidence in participants, and to enthuse them with a new-found passion for Shakespeare, which will sustain them through the GCSE process and beyond.
